Why the foundation order matters most here
Palm Jumeirah is reclaimed land. Groundwater sits shallow and carries chlorides and sulphates that attack buried concrete and the steel inside it. Your structural consultant will specify an exposure class, a concrete cover and usually a GGBS-based substructure mix with a low water/cement ratio. Give us that sheet with the order. A generic mix poured into footings here is the most expensive mistake on a villa rebuild, because it is underground and cannot be checked later.
Blinding comes first: a thin layer, typically 50 mm, to give the steel fixers a clean, level base. A 25 x 18 m footprint at 50 mm is about 23 m3, two trucks.
Getting a mixer onto your frond
Trucks reach the Palm on the trunk road from Al Sufouh Road. Our Al Quoz plant is about 9 km from the Palm in a straight line, and traffic at peak hours lengthens the trip. Frond access, delivery windows and where a pump may stand are set by the community and the developer, not by us. Check with them, book the gate pass, and confirm whether the neighbours' driveways must stay clear.
Villa slabs and roofs are normally pumped. Our booms run from 43 m to 57 m, more reach than a villa needs, so the question is where the pump can set up its outriggers without blocking the frond.
Slabs, screed and the pool deck
Ground and first-floor slabs use the superstructure mix. Screed follows once services are in; measure average depth, since Palm villas often have level changes between living areas and terraces.
External works come last: pool surrounds, driveways, garden walls. These sit against salty ground and spray, so ask your consultant whether they should share the substructure specification.
Palm Jumeirah is on our regular ready-mix concrete Dubai runs out of Al Quoz.
Questions from Palm Jumeirah sites
- Do I really need a special mix for footings on the Palm?
- Your consultant decides, but on reclaimed land with saline groundwater the specification almost always calls for an exposure-rated mix, typically GGBS-based with a low water/cement ratio.
- When should I pour in summer?
- Early morning or night, if the community permits deliveries then. Many specifications limit the placing temperature of fresh concrete.
