Two buyers, one checklist
For a villa extension: blinding, a few cubic metres of footings, a ground slab of 20 to 40 m3, a roof slab of similar size, then screed. For a mid-rise block: blinding, a raft or pad foundations of a few hundred cubic metres, then a slab every couple of weeks.
Both need the same preparation before each pour: formwork checked, steel inspected and signed off, the pump booked, the road or plot entrance clear, and the crew on site when the first truck pulls in. Missing any one of these is how a pour gets cancelled with a loaded truck at the gate.
Ground and foundations
Al Barsha is inland, so foundations do not face the saline groundwater found by the coast. The substructure specification still comes from your engineer. For schools and public-facing buildings the consultant is likely to ask for mix submissions in advance; send the specification early.
Getting trucks in
Our plant in Al Quoz is about 4 km away in a straight line, with Umm Suqeim Street and Sheikh Zayed Road as the main approaches. That is close, but school traffic and peak hours slow the last kilometre. Avoid booking pours that collide with school drop-off and pick-up near your site.
Villa streets are narrow; a mixer and a boom pump will block them for the pour. Our pumps reach 43 m to 57 m, enough to stand on the street and reach most plots. Warn neighbours and check whether any permit for road occupation applies.
Summer slabs
Many specifications limit placing temperature. Roof slabs exposed to afternoon sun crack if they dry too fast, so pour early and start curing as soon as finishing allows. Keep the slab damp or covered for the curing period your specification sets, and do not let it be loaded with blockwork pallets the next morning.
Al Barsha is inside our readymix concrete Dubai delivery area, served straight from the Al Quoz plant.
Questions from Al Barsha sites
- How do I estimate a roof slab for a villa extension?
- Area x thickness. A 120 m2 roof at 200 mm is 24 m3, two trucks. Add beams and upstands separately.
- Can you deliver to a school site during term?
- Yes, but plan delivery times with the school around drop-off, pick-up and lesson hours.
